Supplying plant natural products by yeast cell factories

Plant natural products have been used for centuries to treat human illnesses, as recreational substances, and flavoring coloring agents in our food. Nowadays, commercial-scale manufacturing of plant using extraction from resources or chemical synthesis poses challenges environmental sustainability, such species overexploitation. Bio-based microbial cell factories can offer an attractive alternative these processes reduce the use instead rely on renewable feedstocks raw materials. Here, we review most recent developments sustainable supply by bio-based yeast, with a special focus newly discovered implemented product biosynthetic pathways, approaches diversification products, optimization platform yeast factories. From this, discuss considerations main toward robust production based fermentation.
